What it is

Cabin bags are a fixed box. The airline gives you the measurements and the case gives you a shell with wheels and a handle bar eating into it, and that is all the room there will ever be. The problem with ordinary cubes in a cabin case is not that they are too big, it is that they are the wrong proportion: two of them go in, a third sits at an angle, and the corners stay empty.

This set is cut flatter and longer, so cubes lie side by side across the base of a standard cabin case and stack in two layers without fighting the handle bars. Each one still compresses, which matters more here than in a hold case — on a three or four day trip the difference between a set that compresses and one that does not is usually whether the jumper and the second pair of shoes come with you.
